On August 12, 1924, a group of local citizens formed a committee to organize a new bank. Their goal was to provide Putnam with a local bank backed by local capital.

By November 12, 1924, the bank opened its doors. As a tribute to those who had worked to establish this vital banking facility, the institution was called The Citizens National Bank of Putnam. The Putnam Patriot said in an editorial two days later, “the bank, as it opened on Wednesday, is in every sense a citizens bank.”

It was the opening remarks of the bank’s president, Samuel Reynolds, that set the tone for the new bank, “The policy of The Citizens National Bank will be to render every possible service to the community.” Since that opening day and through the years, the directors, officers, and staff of the Citizens National Bank have worked to satisfy the banking and credit needs of the communities we serve.

Our growth is best measured in the products and services we offer to an expanding base of satisfied customers in northeastern Connecticut. Citizens National Bank began and remains a community bank. As a community bank, we add value through personalized service and customized offerings. We differentiate ourselves from the bigger banks by listening to our customers’ requests and responding to those requests.
