About Us
On June 20, 1858, Rockville Bank opened its doors for its first day of business declaring $175.00 in total assets. Twenty local businessmen got together and incorporated this Bank to serve community needs. The by-laws of this newly formed Bank outlined how job tasks were divided, grouped and coordinated. The initial organization consisted of a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer along with "a Board of Directors not less five nor more than eleven". Early rules were strange by today's standards. For example, no one was able to deposit more than four hundred dollars in any one year, no more than four hundred dollars in any one year, no loans could be made to insiders, and the Bank, then as now, was heavily governed by regulatory bodies.
The primary goal was to help Rockville citizens by taking all monies received and making loans to local families to help them own their own homes. The founding fathers' vision is still valid. Our original commitment continues today, more than 150 years later, in an expanded version. We want our communities to grow and or customer to be successful in achieving their individual goals.
